Ether derivatives of polymeric glucans, their preparation as well as their use

Pharmaceutical and/or cosmetic composition for topical application comprises 0.002-8 (preferably 0.02-4) wt.% of a glucan ether derivative (P) having carboxymethyl, 2-carboxyethyl, 1-carboxyethyl and/or 2-sulfoethyl groups in free-acid or alkali(ne earth) metal salt form. Pharmaceutical and/or cosmetic composition for topical administration comprises: (i) conventional additives; and (ii) an active ingredient comprising at least one polymeric glucan ether derivative (P), which in addition to monomer units of formula (I), also comprises monomer units of formula (II), where (I) are bonded to (II) through 1,3 beta -glycosidic bonds. (P) is at a concentration of 0.002-8 (preferably 0.02-4) wt.% in the composition. X = CH2COO, CH2CH2COO, CH(COO)Me or CH2CH2SO3; Y = H, alkali or alkaline earth metal.
