PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shredding apparatus capable of preventing errors of switch operation more effectively. SOLUTION: A raised part raised above the surrounding is formed on the top cover, and a recessed part 19 consisting of a first recessed part 71 and a second recessed part 72 is formed in the raised part. The first recessed part 71 has a first bottom surface 71b, and the second recessed part 72 has a second bottom surface 72b positioned deeper than the first bottom surface 71b. An emergency stop button 51 is attached to the second bottom surface 72b. The push face 51a of the emergency stop button 51 is normally aboutδ=1.5 mm higher than the surface 18a of the raised part, and, when the push face 51a of the emergency stop button 51 is pushed down by S=5 mm, a motor within the apparatus is stopped as the emergency stop operation. Therefore, the motor within the apparatus is stopped for emergency stop only when the push face 51a of the emergency stop button 51 is pushed down by 3.5 mm further from the surface 18a of the raised part.
