PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical displacement sensor and its control method capable of highly accurate measurement. SOLUTION: A control part 201 first outputs an irradiation instruction (by changing a signal DR from an L level to an H level) to start the light emission of a laser diode included in a light projection part 202. The control part 201 then outputs an imaging instruction when a prescribed period has elapsed since the output of the irradiation instruction (by changing a signal SHT from an H level to an L level) to start the imaging of a two-dimensional imaging element included in a light reception part 203. The prescribed period is set at the period between the emission of a light beam by the laser diode and the substantially reaching of an intensity value of the light beam to a prescribed value. It is thereby possible to maintain stable light projection conditions immediately after the opening of a shutter of the two-dimensional imaging element. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
