PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect reference positions for a zoom lens group and a focus lens group by using a common reference position detecting means. SOLUTION: First, a zoom motor starts to rotate (S1), and a variable power moving frame 2 moves in the direction of an image face along guide bars 7 and 8 (S2). When a light shield part 2c enters an opening 10c formed by the detecting end of a photointerrupter 10, a luminous flux of a light emitting element is intercepted (S3). Accordingly, a CPU drives the zoom motor while counting steps, and moves the variable moving frame 2 to an initial reset position (S4). Subsequently, a focus motor rotates, and a focus moving frame 4 is moved toward a front lens barrel 1 (S5). Consequently light shield part 4c enters the opening 10c of the photointerrupter 10 and intercepts the luminous flux of the light emitting element (S6). Accordingly, the CPU drives the focus motor of the focus drive source while counting the steps. Thereby the CPU moves the focus moving frame 4 to an initial reset position (S7).
