PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a WC-based cemented carbide which has high hardness and excellent high temperature strength and the deformation during production of which can be suppressed, and a production method therefor.SOLUTION: The WC-based cemented carbide is provided which is obtained by binding tungsten carbide particles together with a binder phase of cobalt or cobalt alloy, and in which the hardness of the WC-based cemented carbide is 400 to 800 HV, the content of the cobalt or the cobalt alloy in the WC-based cemented carbide is 35 to 50 mass%, the average particle diameter of the tungsten carbide particle in a cross section structure of the WC-based cemented carbide is 0.4 to 1.0 μm in terms of equivalent circle diameter and a diameter of maximum inscribed circle of an area containing no tungsten carbide particle which can be drawn on the binder phase of the cobalt or the cobalt alloy in the cross section structure is 5 to 30 μm.
