Use of CPG oligonucleotides in the treatment of hepatitis C virus infection

Disclosed is the use of a CpG immunostimulatory nucleic acid in the manufacture of a medicament for the treatment of a chronic hepatitis C viral (HCV) infection, where the patient was previously unsuccessfully treated with a non-CpG therapy. In some instances, the subjects are those that are non-responsive to non-CpG therapy. Further disclosed are methods for identifying CpG immunostimulatory nucleic acids for the ability to stimulate an immune response in the treatment of a chronic HCV infection. Preferably, the CpG immunostimulatory nucleic acids are C class having a semi-soft backbone.
