The device further includes a processor configured to schedule at least one data packet for transmission in at least one data channel time slot that is concurrent to at least one control channel transmission time slot, and a transmission module configured to transmit the at least one data packet in the at least one data channel time slot that is concurrent to the at least one control channel transmission time slot.

A method of conserving transmission energy for a wireless terminal that transmits data packets, the method comprising: determining whether a size of a data packet exceeds a threshold; splitting the data packet into two or more sub packets in response to determining that the size of the data packet exceeds the threshold, wherein a size of each of the two or more sub packets is less than the threshold; scheduling each of the two or more sub packets for transmission in two or more data channel time slots; determining whether at least one of the two or more data channel time slots is not concurrent with at least one predetermined control channel time slot configured to transmit control information; rescheduling at least one of the two or more sub packets to a different data channel time slot that is concurrent to a predetermined control channel time slot in response to determining that the at least one of the two or more data channel time slots is not concurrent with at least one predetermined control channel time slot; and transmitting the two or more sub packets in the two or more data channel time slots.
