PURPOSE:To provide the title glass improved in light transmission characteristics comprising SiO2, Al2O3, B2O3, alkali metal oxide(s), alkaline earth metal oxide(s) plus PbO, rare earth element oxide(s) plus ZrO2 and a coloring ingredient at specified weight proportion. CONSTITUTION:A glass material is first prepared so as to result in the following composition: (A) 20-85wt.% of SiO2, (B) 2-75wt.% of B2O3, (C) <=15wt.% of Al2O3, (D) <=30wt.% of at least one kind among Li2O, Na2O, K2O, Rb2O and Cs2O, (E) <=10wt.% of at least one kind among MgO, CaO, ZnO, BaO, SrO and PbO, (F) <=10wt.% of at least one kind among ZrO2, La2O3, Y2O3, Ta2O3 and Gd2O3, (G) 0.05-15wt.% of at least one kind of copper halide, and (H) 0.001-7wt.% of a coloring ingredient, at least one kind among respective oxides of Fe, Ni, Mn, Co, V, Cr, Cu, Nd and Pd. This composition is then melted at 1200-1500 deg.C and cooled, and furthermore, heat treated at 450-700 deg.C, thus giving the objective colored glass blocking the rays of a specified wavelength or shorter in the wavelengths 250 to 800nm and provided with the aimed transmission characteristics due to the coloring ingredient for the rays of the above specified wavelength or longer.
