PURPOSE: To reduce the microfluctuation of refractive index, the diffusion loss caused by macro-structural asymmetry and to make cost low by making a core made of a mixture of a methacrylate resin with a specific low molecular weight material. CONSTITUTION: In a plastic optical fiber having a core and clad structure, the core consists of the mixture of 99-60wt.% methacrylate resin with 1-40wt.% low molecular weight material having 100-1000 molecular weight. That is, the low molecular weight material having compatibility with a core material is introduced into the core material as a scattering reducing material. Where, benzyl-n-butyl phthalate, 1-methoxyphenyl-1-phenyl ethane, benzyl benzoate, bromobenzene, o-dichlorobenzene, m-dichlorobenzene, 1,2-dibromoethane, 3- phenyl-1-propanol and the like are mentioned as the low molecular weight material. And the methacrylate resin is a homopolymer of methyl methacrylate or a copolymer of methyl methacrylate with a copolymerizing monomer. |
