Chemical compsn. in powder form capable of undergoing spin transition, including a lattice with molecules consisting of a complex in which a metallic ion in an electronic configuration of d5, d6 or d7 is associated with at least one aminotriazole ligand of formula (I) in which L = alkyl radical CnH2n+1 where n is a whole number≥0, each molecule also including a sulpho-organic anion (A) comprising a sulphite radical (SO3<->) and the lattice also including at least one molecule of water per molecule of the complex of the metal M, the molecule(s) of water in the lattice being bound solely by hydrogen bonds to the aminotriazole ligand. Also claimed are a process for prepn. of the compsn.; a device such as a screen with an active medium contg. the compsn. which can be written, erased and rewritten with data to be stored and/or displayed; and a means for thermally addressing the active medium.
