The mechanism has an actuator with a control peg (3) for engaging reverse gear, which interacts initially with the forward gear synchroniser to slow down the gearbox pinions. The actuator has a second peg which is joined to the first and co-operates, in the initial phase of its movement only, with a pusher clip (22) carried by a fork (7) which actuates the pinion synchroniser (17), which is in turn connected to a spring-loaded catch (14 - 16) which returns to a position in which the synchroniser is inactive before the reverse gear is engaged. The pusher clip (22) is pivoted and is placed in a stable position against a stop by a return spring, and the relative movements of the second peg and fork during the engagement and disengagement of reverse gear are such that in the first phase the second peg presses against the end of the pusher and holds it in a stable position while the synchroniser is engaged.
|
