PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the weight of a vessel and facilitate the machining of gas generation agent by cutting a wire material in which gas generation substance adheres on long fiber of metal or inorganic material to form a collection of columnlike body or stringlike body of gas generation agent. SOLUTION: An outer vessel consists of upper and lower casings 2, 3, and a combustion chamber 8 is provided concentrically with a vertical hanging section 2d of the upper casing 2. Gas generation agent m of columnlike body or stringlike body which is cut into pieces of 3 to 20mm is stored as compressed moldings in the combustion chamber 8. That is, gas generation agent m is fitted in a canister 9 around the vertical hanging section 2d for storage. The canister 9 is supported by a cushion 12 through a cushion 10 in an upper wall section and coolant 11 in a lower section. As a result, combustion surface area of gas generation agent m increases, and it is possible to inflate an air bag without increasing combustion pressure greatly. Consequently, since is unnecessary to increase plate thickness of the upper and lower casings 2, 3, it is possible to reduce the weight of a gas generator. Moreover, it is possible to store the gas generation agent m easily. |
