Devices are incorporated for feeding the relatively heavy part of the waste material (11) to the underside of the catchment trough (6). The catchment trough has an overflow, devices for feeding water into it, and further devices for producing a swirling current moving upwards. This current causes relatively large and light parts of the waste material to be moved towards the upper side of the trough and over the overflow out of the trough.
