ULTRAFINE BARIUM SULFATE PARTICLE, WATER-BASED COATING COMPOSITION, AND WATER-BASED INK COMPOSITION

Ultrafine barium sulfate particles which, when incorporated in water-based compositions such as water-based coating materials and water-based ink compositions, produce the effect of improving the coloration and surface gloss of color pigments including carbon black and the effect of improving the orientation of aluminum flakes or pearlessence pigments used in metallic coating materials; and a water-based coating material/water-based ink composition each containing the particles. The particles are ultrafine barium sulfate particles coated with (1) the hydroxide and/or oxide of one or more metals selected among Al, Si, and Zr and/or (2) the phosphate of one or more metals selected among Mg, Ca, Sr, and Ba.
