PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To keep a normal recording state for a recording material by keeping uniformity of performance for the entire line head even when the performance thereof deteriorates due to repeated recording thereby selecting a recording material such that recording can be carried out while avoiding an abnormal even when a part of the line head is abnormal. SOLUTION: The line head type recorder comprises a recording record memory means 2, an abnormal position detecting means for a line head 7, means for locating a recording material from recording record information, means 11, 22 for determining the set position of the recording material while avoiding the abnormal position and storing that information, means 4 for displaying the set position and the type of the recording material, and means 10, 11 for measuring the set position and width of the recording material.
