An electrochemical device is provided to prevent internal short caused by precipitation of excessive lithium ions on the surface of an anode or recrystallization of metallic impurities, thereby realizing improved safety. An electrochemical device comprises a cathode, an anode and a separator interposed therebetween, wherein the separator is surface-coated with a cyclodextrin derivative. The cyclodextrin derivative is coated in an amount of 0.1 g/m^2~ 10 g/m^2 on the weight/area basis. The cyclodextrin derivative includes at least one selected from the group consisting of cyclodextrin, carboxymethyl cyclodextrin, hydroxypropyl cyclodextrin, hydroxyethyl cyclodextrin, maltosyl cyclodextrin, permethylated cyclodextrin and ethyl cyclodextrin. |
