PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform a forward/backward arcuate rotary driving mode in a normally optimum state by the easy control of motor torque based on the actual condition of forward/backward arcuate rotary driving in a rotary drum in each case. SOLUTION: The forward/backward arcuate rotary driving mode for alternately repeating fast forward arcuate rotation and fast backward arcuate rotation by an angle over 90°and below 200°is provided to a drum type washing machine, as regards the driving of the rotary drum 4 where a rotary axial direction is horizontal or a downward inclining from the horizontal direction from an opened front surface side to a rear surface side being a bottom part. In the forward/backward arcuate rotary driving mode, a motor 5 is driven by setting the passage time point of a prescribed time t when the rotary drum 4 does not reach a forward/backward reverse position from the driving start of the rotary drum 4, and setting a target rotary speed x that the rotary drum 4 is to reach at the passage time point of the prescribed time t. The rotary speed x1 of the rotary drum 4 is detected at the passage time point of the prescribed time t so as to change the torque to be generated by the motor 5 according to a difference between the detected rotary speed x1 and the target rotary speed x. Consequently, the rotary speed x1 at the passage time point of the prescribed time t satisfies the target rotary speed x, thereby solving the problem to be solved. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
