Provided is a liquid crystal display element whereby scratch resistance on a back face of the liquid crystal display element can be enhanced, interference fringes can be made invisible, and uneven luminance can be suppressed. Through an embodiment of the present invention, there is provided a liquid crystal display element 30 provided with a first polarizing plate 40, a second polarizing plate 50, and a liquid crystal cell 60 arranged between the first polarizing plate 40 and the second polarizing plate 50, the liquid crystal display element 30 characterized in that the first polarizing plate 40 is provided with a first optical film 41 having a first uneven face 41A constituting a surface 30A of the liquid crystal display element 30, and a first polarizer 42 arranged on the liquid crystal cell 60 side of the first optical film 41, the second polarizing plate 50 is provided with a second optical film 51 having a second uneven face 51A constituting a back face 30B of the liquid crystal display element 30, and a second polarizer 52 arranged on the liquid crystal cell 60 side of the second optical film 51, the first uneven face 41A and the second uneven face 51A have the same shape, the recesses and projections constituting the first uneven face 41A and the recesses and projections constituting the second uneven face 51A have the same refractive index, and expression (1) is satisfied, where θa [°] is the average inclination angle of the second uneven face 51A, S [µm] is the average interval between local peaks on the second uneven face 51A, N is the refractive index of the recesses and projections constituting the second uneven face 51A, and D [µm] is the average separation distance between the first uneven face 41A and the second uneven face 51A.
