An elevator governor is provided with: a drive wheel rotationally driven according to the ascent and descent of a vertically moving body; a first governor mechanism configured so that the rotation of the drive wheel is transmitted to a first rotating body and the first governor mechanism detects the ascent overspeed of the vertically moving body on the basis of the rotational speed of the first rotating body; a second governor mechanism configured so that, when the vertically moving body descends, the rotation of the drive wheel is transmitted to a second rotating body through a clutch and the descent overspeed of the vertically moving body is detected on the basis of the rotational speed of the second rotating body, and so that, when the vertically moving body ascends, the transmission of the rotation of the drive wheel is interrupted by the clutch; a rotation prevention mechanism having a first roller which rotates in synchronous with the clutch, a second roller which is disposed facing the first roller, and a belt which is wrapped around the first roller and the second roller, the rotation prevention mechanism preventing, by means of the tension of the belt, the clutch from rotating when the vertically moving body ascends; and an abnormality detection means for detecting an abnormality of the belt. |
