PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a receptacle connector and an optical coupling structure that can reduce adhesion of dust or dirt on an optical coupling part.SOLUTION: A receptacle connector 10A includes: a receptacle ferrule 13; a cavity 17 containing the receptacle ferrule 13; a cavity 18 containing a plug connector 20; and a receptacle housing 11 containing the cavity 18. The receptacle ferrule 13 has an optical coupling surface 34a. An opening of the cavity 17 has a smaller area than an opening of the cavity 18 in cross sections perpendicular to a direction in which the plug connector 20 is interposed in the receptacle housing 11. The optical coupling surface 34a is in the cavity 17 in a second state after optical coupling.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
