A vehicle control device that operates a brake device as a device to avoid or mitigate collision between a target and a vehicle having a radar device and an onboard camera device mounted thereto. The vehicle control device comprises: a target acquisition unit that combines the radar device and the onboard camera device and obtains the position of a target; an operation determination unit that determines the operation of the brake device, on the basis of the obtained target position; an operation diagnosis unit that, on the basis of the obtained target position, determines the operation of the brake device by a separate calculation processing from that of the operation determination unit and diagnoses the determination result of the operation determination unit; a control processing unit that performs drive processing for the brake device; and an operation restricting unit that, if the determination result is diagnosed as normal, sends the determination result of the operation determination unit to the control processing unit and, if the determination result is diagnosed to be abnormal, does not send the determination result of the operation determination unit to the control processing unit. |
