PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a postage metering system and its method using a personal computer. SOLUTION: A postage metering system includes a host processor to which printers 22 and 23 are connected. A post security device(PSD) 40 is connected to the host processor. The PSD 40 is provided with a first peculiar identifier, a first postage storage device, and a first digital signature generator. The host processor request the PSD 40 to issue a first certificate of postage payment printed by printers 22 and 23 and can obtain it. The host processor requests a remote data center 5 to issue a second certificate of postage payment printed by printers 22 and 23 and can obtain it. For each meter transaction printed by printers 22 and 23, the host processor starts to request one of first and second certificates of postage payment. In one embodiment, the host processor is a general computer. |
