The crawler chain comprises a tubular body with an aperture (3) for the tooth (25) of a driver pinion (26) and removable tread pads (1) on the outside. The tread pad extends towards the aperture and covers at least one section (2), e.g. between 30% and 100%, of the aperture. The tread has a recess (30) in the underside for free movement of the driver tooth. The tread extends to the free end face (9) of the tubular body, and it has a continuous recess for dirt removal.
