<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surgical instrument with which a doctor can perform surgical procedure in a suitable posture. <P>SOLUTION: The surgical instrument 1 has: a long instrument body 2; a head part 3 disposed turnably on the distal end part of the instrument body 2 centering on a rotating axis almost orthogonally crossing the axis of the instrument body 2; a surgical motion means 4 disposed on the head part 3 to carry out opening/closing or turning motion; an operation part 5 disposed on the proximal end part of the instrument body 2 to remotely operate turning of the head part 3 and motion of the surgical motion means 4; a first transmission means to transmit operation at the operation part 5 and convert the operation to turning motion of the head part 3; and a second transmission means to transmit operation at the operation part 5 regardless of a posture of the head part 3 and convert the operation to opening/closing or turning motion. The second transmission means comprises two projecting contact points, and a second push rod with pressure face to press and move the contact points at the distal end.
