Methods for verifying fluid movement using semiconductor nanocrystals

A composition admixed with a predetermined amount of luminescent semiconductor nanocrystals capable of emitting electromagnetic radiation in a narrow wavelength band when excited is provided. This composition is used for determining fluid movement, fluid dilution, cleanliness of a rector and fluid removal. To verify the transfer of a fluid from a first composition to a second composition the above admixed composition is transferred to a first composition to form a third composition. This third composition is exposed to energy capable of exciting the luminescent semiconductor nanocrystals and then the electromagnetic radiation emitted from the luminescent semiconductor nanocrystals in the third composition is detected. To monitor the flow of a composition such as a reagent method the above admixed composition is transferred to a container. This container is exposed to energy capable of exciting the luminescent semiconductor nanocrystals and then the electromagnetic radiation emitted from the luminescent semiconductor nanocrystals is detected.
