The device has a shock wave head (12), which emits shock waves during a shock wave treatment. The shock wave head is arranged at a movable retaining device (13) and braced on a support unit (11) that includes an upper side, via the retaining device. A closable retaining device (20) of the support unit has a cover unit (21) that partially forms the upper side of the support unit. A guide unit (22) is provided in the support unit for adjusting the cover unit with vertically and/or horizontally movable components relative to the support unit. An independent claim is also included for a support unit of a shock wave treatment device.
