PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately detect a leak voltage in a short time at the time when a leak is generated between a developer carrier and an image carrier.SOLUTION: A development device comprises: an image carrier; a developer carrier; a first detection processing unit which applies a voltage to a portion between the image carrier and the developer carrier by gradually increasing the voltage by a prescribed first voltage from a prescribed first initial voltage and detects a leak voltage at the time when a leak is generated between the developer carrier and the image carrier; a second detection processing unit which applies a voltage to a portion between the image carrier and the developer carrier by gradually increasing the voltage by a second voltage smaller than the first voltage from a prescribed second initial voltage and detects a leak voltage; and a detection control unit which causes the second detection processing unit to detect the leak voltage consecutively more than one time after causing the first detection processing unit to detect the leak voltage, and determines an average value of the detected leak voltages as the leak voltage. The detection control unit defines a voltage obtained by subtracting a prescribed reference voltage from the previously-detected leak voltage as a second initial voltage.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3 |
