PURPOSE:To produce the subject steel cord composed of plural filaments, having specific twist angle, filament diameter, pitch and undulation amplitude, exhibiting high strength and compressive characteristics and giving a tire having high belt-edge separation resistance, breaking resistance, etc. CONSTITUTION:The objective steel cord 2 for reinforcing an elastomer, having improved strength and compressive characteristics of cord and giving a tire having improved belt-edge separation resistance and cord breaking resistance is produced by aligning 4-5 steel filaments 1 having a carbon content of 0.80-0.90 and a tensile strength of 310-450kg/mm<2> and twisting the filaments by single twisting at a twist angle alpha of 78.8 deg., a pitch P of 7-10mm and, in the case of four filaments, a filament diameter (d) of 0.29-0.32mm and an undulation amplitude (a) of 0.7-1.1mm or, in the case of five filaments, a filament diameter (d) of 0.28-0.30mm and an undulation amplitude (a) of 0.8-1.2mm. |
