PURPOSE:To store springs for energizing side gears without deteriorating the strength of a differential case. CONSTITUTION:A vehicle differential gear mechanism includes a differential case 2, a pair of shafts 5, 6 journalled to the differential case 2, a pair of side gears 7, 8 coupled to the respective shafts, at least one pair of element gears 11, 12 for engagement with the respective side gears, a pair of engagement gears 15, 16 for rotating the element gear relative to each other, and springs 38, 39 by which one of the side gears interposed between the opposite side gear and the differential case is W energized toward the opposite side gear. Channeled portions 35, 36 for receiving the springs are provided at the respective end portions of the side gears 7, 8 and the springs 38, 39 are put in the respective channeled portions.
