PURPOSE:To obtain a new compound useful as an antibacterlal agent having excellent antibacterial activity over a wide range from Gram-positive bacteria to Gram-negative bacteria, excellent in chemical stability, in vivo stability, esp. stability to DHP-1, and also excellent in oral absorbability. CONSTITUTION:This carbapenem compound (salt) is expressed by formula I[R<1> is a (substituted) lower alkyl; COOR<2> is an (esterified) carboxyl; R<3> is a (substituted) lower alkyl], e.g. [(5S,6S,7S,11S)--5-[(R)-1-hydroxyethyl]-11- methoxy-4-oxo-8-thi-3-azatricyclo[5.4.0.0<3.6>]lundeca-1-en-2-yl]carbo xylic acid sodium salt. This compound of formula I is obtained by ring opening reaction of a compound of formula II (X and Y are groups to form a double bond through mutual reaction) by a common method. |
