<p>A method of producing an electrically resistive heating element and an electrically resistive heating element so formed having an electrically resistive oxide layer applied directly onto a conductive metal substrate for use in generating heat by the passage of electrical current therethrough, the method comprising (a) oxidising particles of metal powder to produce a layer of metal oxide on the surface of each metal powder particle; (b) heating the pre-oxidised particles to a temperature at which the particles become at least partially molten or softened; (c) depositing the at least partially molten or softened pre-oxidised particles onto a surface of a conductive metal substrate to form an electrically resistive layer; and (d) depositing an electrically conducting contact layer onto the surface of the resistive oxide layer to form an electrically resistive element having current conduction paths which extend through the thickness of the resistive layer between the electrically conductive substrate and the electrically conducting contact layer.</p> |
