A method and an apparatus for recording and reproducing data are provided to compensate an error caused by motion of the recording medium by changing the position of a reflection mirror according to the signal of a sensing unit. An apparatus for reproducing data comprises a light source(10), an actuator(20), an image sensor(21), a sensing unit, and a servo circuit(24). The actuator is formed with a reflection mirror to project the reference beam to a recording medium(16). The image sensor receives the reference beam and converts the reference beam into an electric signal. The sensing unit detects the position of the recording medium. The servo circuit changes the incident position or angle of the reference beam by changing the position of the reflection mirror according to the signal of the sensing unit. The servo circuit controls the reflection mirror for focusing operation when the focusing error occurs due to the motion of the recording medium.
