A backup thermal insulation plate (41-45, 51-55) includes a colloidal ino rganic oxide-impregnated, pressed and dried high-temperature-resistant inorg anic-fiber blanket or board, the plate (41-45, 51-55) having a use temperatu re up to at least about 1000°C and maintaining mechanical integrity after ex posure to the use temperature, the plate (41-45, 51-55) having a density gre ater than or equal to about 500 kg/m3, and a compression resistance of at le ast about 4900 kPa (50 kgf/cm2). |
