摘要 A planar light source and a backlight unit having the same are provided to prevent unbalance of mercury by solving thermal deviation on the whole area of the planar light source through a graphite sheet, thereby reducing generation of pinky and dark portion and achieving uniform luminance distribution. A light source body(210) comprises first and second substrates(211,212) where plural discharge spaces(215) are arranged. The plural discharge spaces are separated from each through plural partition units(213) as being spaced from each other. In the discharge spaces, discharge gas is charged. A sealing member seals the discharge space of the light source body. An electrode unit(216) discharges the discharge gas of the discharge space. At least one or more thermoelectric members(250) are disposed one rear of the light source body. In horizontal both ends of the first substrate where temperature is relatively high, a graphite sheet having a relatively wide width so as to transfer mass heat is disposed. In the horizontal center where temperature is relatively low, a graphite sheet having a relatively smaller width is disposed. The unbalance of mercury is prevented by uniformly distributing temperature.
