Assembly of a side sill and a roof extension cross piece

The assembly has a longitudinal side rail (18) and a cross piece (22) connected between them by a surface connection e.g. adhesion, so that the assembly is connected to a body-in-white of a motor vehicle only by the side rail. The side rail has a transversal protrusion (40) with a lower surface (42) supported and connected to the body-in-white. The cross piece comprises a central stiffening part and two lateral parts connected to the side rail. Each lateral part has a base (45b) forming a connection surface that co-operates with the side rail.
