A refrigerator wherein a door operation device can be operated from the front by a user without interposing a wiring cord between the door and the cabinet. The refrigerator has the door (36) which can be moved straight toward the front, a permanent magnet (90), a link mechanism, and an operation button (86) which are provided at the door (36), a proximity switch (94) which is provided at the cabinet (1) and varies its electrical condition on the basis of the movement of the permanent magnet (90) while the door (36) stands still at its closed position, the door operation device (110) which is provided at the cabinet (1) to move the door (36) toward the front and has an electrically driving source (200), and a control circuit which is provided at the cabinet (1) to drive the driving source (200) of the door operation device (110) when the electrical condition of the proximate switch (94) varies according to moving of the permanent magnet (90).
