PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cutting device and a cutting method capable of reliably cutting a thick sheet material.SOLUTION: A cutting device for cutting a workpiece by a cutter moving in a direction orthogonal to a moving direction of a sheet material includes: a creation means for detecting a pulling-out section for cutting when the sheet material is moved in a pulling-out direction in cutting a contour line of a graphic shown by graphic data by a cutter with a single stroke and a pulling-in section for cutting when the sheet material is moved in a pulling-in direction, based on the graphic data, separating the detected pulling-out section and the pulling-in section, changing to cut when the pulling-in section is moved in a direction to pull out the sheet material without changing the pulling-out section, and cutting the contour line; and a cutting means for cutting on the basis of cutting data created by the creation means. |
