PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique for dynamic power limitation (power capping) on a server.SOLUTION: Dynamic power limitation comprises the processes of: obtaining a first power limit as to a server group; calculating a first threshold based upon the first power limit, and determining whether the power consumption of a server group exceeds a first threshold when the first threshold is smaller than the first power limit; and placing the server group in a power capping mode when the power consumption of the server group exceeds the first threshold. The amount of electric power at which a server is capped can be dynamically determined based on the amount of discretionary power available to distribute among the power capped servers in the rack or data center and the amount of power that the server consumes relative to other servers in the data center or rack.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4 |
