The following are provided: a rolled master film for use in coated polarizers, said rolled master film being very smooth and easy to transport; a method for manufacturing said rolled master film; and a method for manufacturing a coated polarizer using said rolled master film. This rolled master film is characterized in that: letting the average thickness of the rolled master film, excluding regions that extend 50-300 mm from each widthwise edge thereof, be L µm, the thickness of each part of the rolled master film outside the regions extending 50-300 from each widthwise edge falls within the range L±1 µm; the rolled master film has thin sections, with thicknesses in the 0.80L-0.95L range, in the regions extending 50-300 from each widthwise edge; and the width of the rolled master film is at least 1,500 mm. |
