In planting the small plants found in a standard cellpack tray or flat in garden centres,generally one guesses and makes a hole which is longer,wider and deeper than the plants ro ot ball,then places the plant into the hole,adjusting the height by adding or subtracting soil then backfills and compacts the soil around the plant to eliminate any air spaces.
