A nucleic-acid molecule encoding a biologically active protein that binds growth hormone receptor can be isolated and expressed to obtain the protein for use in treating sheep and goats, thereby to induce lactogenesis, an increase in muscle, an increase in mammary gland mass and/or a decrease in fat content.
