The die (1), whcih has a central cutting thread (2) with cutting edges and chip space bounded by circular blind holes (7), is used in conjunction with a die holder. Below the cutting thread (2) and forming an integral part of the die is a guide brush section with bore diameter (3) which locates and aligns the die on the stud or bolt to be threaded. Between the guide bush setion and the cutting thread is a recess of diameter (4) greater than the guide bush bore. This permits a lead-in section (3) to be produced on the cutting thread. ADVANTAGE - Negligible increase in weight. Simple and cheap to produce.
