A print ribbon cassette has a spool (11) located on a spindle (12) mounted at the end of a lever (9). Also supported on the same pivot point (8) as the lever, a stripping element (13) is in contact with the spool. The ribbon is transferred from the spool via guides (5,3.1,3.2) to a drive (6) and contact (7) roller pair. As the ribbon is used the dia. of the spool reduces and the lever support, which is spring-biased, moves nearer to the housing wall. Replacement of the spool can be made by opening the housing.
