Filters for dustladen gases are backflushed by pressurised gas pulses in the reverse direction, when the pressure differential across the filter element exceeds a certain limit. In addition, the volumetric flow rate is determined and the backflushing pulse is triggered only when the ratio of pressure differential to flow rate exceeds an empirical figure which has been determined by experiments.
