The substitute comprises (a) seawater salt or rock salt and (b) potassium chloride; the molar ratio of (a) to (b) being 1.5 +/- 10% : 1. This gives an approximate composition of:- NaCl 46.6%, MgCl2 6.5%, MgSO4 2.8%, CaSO4 2.2%, KCl 41.5%, MgBr2 0.10% CaCO3 0.2%. The dietary salt substitute provides a potassium and magnesium supplement to the diet with a reduced intake sodium and calcium and may be used in the control of hypertension. |
