PURPOSE: To obtain sorbent pellets based on an oxide having a high reactivity with hydrogen sulfide for a long period of repeated cycles of sulfurization and regeneration by forming a pelletized mixture of a metal oxide reactive with hydrogen sulfide, an inactive metal oxide diluent, high surface area silica and a binder. CONSTITUTION: A sorbent oxide component of pellets contains a selected metal oxide reactive at a high temperature to hydrogen sulfide in a gas stream. A zinc oxide is preferably to be used at a temperature range of 430-650 deg.C. For higher temperature use, manganese oxide or copper oxide, or the like, can be used. An inactive refractory oxide has high stability when combining it with zinc oxide as titania and, acts as a diluent and contributes to strength of the pellet. Silica gel is contained in the pellet to give high porosity and high surface area to the pellet and provides high spalling resistance and reactivity. A durable pellet is formed by combining these components with a binder. |
