The link chain comprises a number of vertical chain links (1) and a number of horizontal chain links (2), linked alternately to one another in an articulated manner. The vertical chain links have oval internal openings (5), and constant, uniform cross-sections which are semi-circular in shape to provide a flattening on the outwardly facing structure. The horizontal chain links have oval internal openings (7) with a width greater than the width of the internal openings of the vertical chain links. The horizontal chain links have end, nose parts (9) with an external width greater than an external width of the vertical chain links.
