<p>The invention provides an anti-fungal method comprising exposing the fungal organisms to two anti-folate drugs, methotrexate and sulfamethoxazole (or their analogues), in combination. The drugs act synergistically in their anti-fungal effect, so that relatively low doses of each drug are required. The method is effective against several pathogenic species of Candida including C. albicans, C. krusei and C. glabrata which are common in patients whose immunity has been suppressed as a result of HIV or chemotherapy.</p> |
