High speed thrust bearing assembly

A high speed thrust bearing assembly is provided for use on a hand-held circular saw. The thrust bearing assembly is held in place within a plastic housing (50) which has a through hole (52) therethrough. The plastic housing (50) further has a first counterbore (54) which is larger than the through hole (52), and a second counterbore (58) which is larger than the first counterbore (54). A high speed thrust plate (62) is placed within the plastic housing (50). The thrust plate (62) has a flange section (64) and a bearing section (70). The bearing section (70) has an indentation (72) therein. The thrust plate (62) is placed within the plastic housing (50) so that the bearing section (70) is disposed through the through hole (52) of the plastic housing (50) with the flange section (64) being held within the first counterbore (54). A sleeve bearing (74) is thereafter placed within the second counterbore (58) and surrounds a rotating shaft (46). The rotating shaft (46) has a terminal end (76) with a cylindrical projection (78) thereon which matingly fits within the indentation (72) of the bearing section (70) in the thrust plate (62). <IMAGE>
