PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a contact type electric discharge device which is capable of removing the electric discharge products formed by electric discharge and an image forming device which allows the improvement in image quality and the prolonging of the life of an image carrying member. SOLUTION: A photocatalyst material capable of cracking the electric discharge products, such as ozone and NOx formed by the electric discharge is incorporated into the surface layer 35 of an electrostatic charging roller 31 of an electrostatic charging device 30 for executing the electric discharge by coming into contact with a photoreceptor drum. The photocatalyst material is excited by the light emitted when the electric discharge is effected, by which the electric discharge products are removed. Consequently, the image flow induced by the film of nitric acid or nitrate by the NOx is prevented and this film is removed and, therefore, the need for mechanically lapping the surface of the photoreceptor drum is eliminated. |
